19–25 April 2027 | Ashtanga Cheshire Studios
Two pathways. One immersive experience. A deeper exploration of the practice, philosophy and art of teaching Yin Yoga.
Join Anna Favager and Kelly Mason at Ashtanga Cheshire Studios for an immersive Yin Yoga Teacher Training, designed to deepen your understanding of this subtle yet powerful practice and develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to share it with others.
Rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, functional anatomy and mindful movement, this training explores the relationship between the physical body, the nervous system, the breath and the energetic qualities of Yin Yoga.
Our programme offers two pathways: a 30-hour Foundational Yin Yoga Teacher Training, delivered Monday to Friday, and an extended 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training, incorporating the foundational five days followed by an additional weekend of advanced study.
The extended training explores Wall Yin, the meridian system, acupressure points and more advanced Yin Yoga postures, examining how these elements can be thoughtfully integrated into teaching to create a more varied, accessible and informed experience for students.
Whether you are an existing yoga teacher wishing to expand your offering, a trainee teacher or an experienced practitioner seeking a deeper understanding of Yin Yoga, this training provides a supportive environment for learning, exploration and personal development.
Course Content
The training combines immersive practice, lectures, discussion, practical workshops and supported teaching exercises, providing both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience.
Part One: 30-Hour Foundational Yin Yoga Teacher Training
Monday 19 – Friday 23 April 2027 | 11:00am – 5:00pm
The foundational five-day training explores the essential principles of Yin Yoga, its origins, physical and energetic benefits and the art of teaching a safe, considered and accessible practice.
The programme includes:
The Foundations of Yin Yoga: Understanding the history, philosophy, intention and principles of Yin Yoga, including its relationship with more dynamic Yang practices.
Yin Yoga Postures: Exploring the essential Yin postures, their target areas, variations, modifications and appropriate use of props.
Functional Anatomy: Understanding skeletal variation, connective tissues, fascia, joints and the importance of recognising individual differences within postures.
The Art of Stillness: Exploring the relationship between stillness, sensation, breath, awareness and the meditative qualities of Yin Yoga.
Teaching Methodology: Developing effective verbal cueing, language, observation, class management and the confidence to guide students through a Yin practice.
Sequencing: Learning to create balanced, intentional and accessible Yin Yoga classes, including the use of counterposes, transitions and appropriate rebound time.
Breath + Mindfulness: Understanding how breath awareness, meditation and mindful observation can support the experience of a Yin practice.
Props + Modifications: Exploring the use of bolsters, blocks, blankets and other supports to accommodate individual needs.
Safe Practice: Understanding appropriate intensity, contraindications, individual limitations and the distinction between productive sensation and pain.
Practical Teaching: Opportunities to practise guiding postures, sequencing and teaching within a supportive group environment.
Throughout the five days, students will participate in guided practices, group discussions, reflection and practical exercises designed to consolidate their understanding.
The emphasis is not on achieving a particular shape, but on understanding the purpose of each posture and how it can be adapted to suit the individual.
Part Two: 20-Hour Advanced Yin Yoga Intensive
Saturday 24 – Sunday 25 April 2027 | 8:00am – 6:00pm
Available to students undertaking the full 50-hour training, this additional weekend builds upon the foundational principles and introduces more specialised approaches to Yin Yoga.
The advanced intensive explores the energetic foundations of the practice, creative variations and ways to broaden your teaching beyond the traditional floor-based repertoire.
Advanced Course Content
Wall Yin Yoga
An exploration of how the wall can be used as a supportive and versatile prop within Yin Yoga.
Students will investigate how wall-supported postures can offer different relationships with gravity, provide alternative positioning and create opportunities for both deeper exploration and greater accessibility.
The training includes practical workshops in Wall Yin sequencing, modifications and integrating wall-based postures into a balanced class.
Meridian Theory + Traditional Chinese Medicine
An introduction to the meridian system through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine, exploring its historical foundations and relationship with Yin Yoga.
Students will examine:
The main meridian pathways and their traditional associations with the organs.
The Five Element framework and its relationship with the meridian system.
Traditional interpretations of the relationship between meridians, emotions and energetic balance.
How Yin postures are commonly associated with particular meridian pathways.
The use of meridian-inspired themes to develop purposeful class sequences.
Acupressure Points + Yin Yoga
Led with an emphasis on safe, practical application, this section introduces selected acupressure points and how they may be incorporated into a Yin Yoga class.
Students will explore point locations, traditional indications and appropriate methods of gentle acupressure, alongside contraindications and the professional boundaries of using these techniques in a group yoga setting.
The intention is to offer teachers additional tools to create a mindful and considered practice, rather than to train students in clinical acupuncture or medical treatment.
Advanced Yin Yoga Postures + Variations
A practical exploration of less commonly taught and more demanding Yin Yoga postures, with particular attention to anatomical individuality, suitability and safe progression.
Students will explore how more complex shapes can be offered to experienced practitioners where appropriate, without treating greater depth or flexibility as the objective of Yin Yoga.
This section includes:
Advanced posture variations and transitions.
Understanding the demands placed on joints and connective tissues.
Recognising when a posture may or may not be appropriate.
Modifying complex postures for different anatomical structures.
The importance of observation, communication and student autonomy.
Integrating advanced postures into intelligently structured sequences.
Advanced Sequencing + Teaching Integration
Bringing together the elements explored throughout the weekend, students will learn to develop more specialised Yin Yoga classes incorporating Wall Yin, meridian themes, acupressure and advanced variations.
Practical teaching exercises and group feedback will provide opportunities to explore these concepts and develop greater confidence in applying them appropriately.

Drawing upon her experience in yoga education and clinical acupuncture, Kelly introduces students to the traditional meridian system, selected acupressure points and the relationship between these concepts and the practice of Yin Yoga.
Her teaching explores how an understanding of meridian theory and appropriate acupressure techniques can offer an additional dimension to Yin Yoga classes, while maintaining clear distinctions between traditional energetic frameworks and contemporary anatomical understanding.
The advanced training also explores creative approaches to Wall Yin, sequencing and more complex postural variations, encouraging students to expand their teaching with curiosity, confidence and respect for individual anatomy.
Together, Anna and Kelly offer a complementary approach to Yin Yoga education, combining the physical, philosophical, practical and traditional energetic elements of the practice.
